The "Banana Tree Gate" was created in 2000 for a private residence in Palm Springs, CA. One of the residents of the house wanted a tropical theme on the outside to somehow incorporate a banana tree and the other wanted an erotic theme on the inside. The result is shown below. The gate itself is constructed out of pine so as to reduce weight and the frame is made of treated douglas fir construction lumber. Each piece of the gate and frame was soaked in a wood preservative that was clear where the natural wood effect was to show, and tinted with paint pigments for the colored pieces. The entire gate was precut and then each piece was soaked with the preservative and then the treated and colored pieces were then glue and screw assembled.
