The "Ocotillo Gate" was created in 1997 for a private residence in Palm Springs, CA. It is the third of my ornamental gate projects. The image depicted is that of looking through an ocotillo cactus at a swimming pool with city lights below. Several different materials were used including pine and douglas fir for the panel and frame, redwood cut out of fence boards for the branches of the ocotillo, colored plastic inserted in the middle layers to depict the pool and city lights and reflective red plastic for the flowers of the ocotillo. The house was located at the end of a cul-de-sac and when the headlights of a car shown on the gate, the flowers would sparkle.
