Realistic Wood Sculpture "Life Over Death"

E-mail Print PDF

Created in 1992, 16" wide x 20" deep, x 24" high, price $1,600

Created when I realized that I wasn't going to be dying anytime soon from HIV.  I had been infected for over 4 years, I was still healthy, I was working on an exciting design/build project and my t-cells were rising.  I had expected to be dead within a few years of moving to the desert in 1990, yet I was still alive and thriving.  I wanted to express those emotions in as simple a way as possible.  Because of my fascination and experimentation with what I call "double-imaging", I expressed life as being a big smile on the dominate layers and death as a skull on the subordinate layers.
